Our History

Melrose Contracting Corp (MCC) was founded in 2016 by Eric Melrose, MCC is the newest incarnation of Melrose Marine Service, Inc. (MMS) founded in 1968 by Jim Melrose (Eric's Father). Upon his return from serving his country in Vietnam Jim Melrose started MMS doing marine maintenance, servicing moorings and building floating docks. It wasn't long before Jim and MMS were the in-house dockbuilders at the Jakobson Ship Yard in Oyster Bay, NY from the mid 70's until their closing in 1990. That partnership allowed MMS to grow and become a first rate marine construction firm with experience in dockbuilding, bulkheading, marine railways, and diving operations. MMS went on to become one of the primere builders of marinas on Long Island working on projects such as Westshore Marina in Huntington, NY, Britania Yachting Center in Northport, NY,  The Danfords Inn in Port Jefferson, NY and Brick Cove Marina in Southold, NY.

Eric grew up on the rig in out of marinas and shipyards spending weekends and school vacations with the crew building docks, shifting barges and running cranes, officially joining the ranks in 1990. In 1993 MMS was contracted to perform the environmental clean-up of the sub sea area surrounding Jakobson Ship Yard, Jim and Eric worked to engineer many new process and develop new equipment for this new industry. In 1996 Eric became President of MMS while Jim went on to start Seaway Environmental Technologies and continued to develop environmental dredging equipment. Since 1996 MMS has continued to expand its operations to include all of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, expanding its fleet of equipment adding additional barges and expanding its land based and civil construction capacities.

Melrose Contracting Corp was formed to better represent our capabilities on the water, on land and in the environmental industries. We continue to give our clients the old-school service, integrity and workmanship they are accustomed to while working smarter not harder using new practices and modern equipment to get projects done on time and on budget.
